Chameleon Cellars
St Helena, Napa County, CA
Chameleon Cellars is owned and operated by two partners, Jeffrey Popick
and Owsley Brown III, who share a commitment for producing lusciously fruity,
accessible, and reasonably-priced wines.
The partners met while working at Mayacamas Vineyards in Napa, CA, where
the concept of Chameleon Cellars first took form in 1995.
Their Initial efforts focused on the Cal-Ital wines Sangiovese and Barbera.
The line was later expanded to include Nettare, a proprietary red, as well
as Syrah, Zinfandel, Merlot and Charbono.
All Chameleon Cellars fruit is sourced from small vineyards located in prime
California viticultural areas. These meticulously selected growers emphasize
sound vineyard practices, particularly canopy management and cropping levels.
For the first five years, the wines were made at the Kent Rasmussen Winery in
St. Helena. Since 2001, the production and barrel aging headquarters for
Chameleon Cellars has been the Moss Creek Winery in eastern Napa County.
All Chameleon Cellars wines feature bright fruit, moderate tannins, judicious
use of French Oak, and above all, firm acidity -- the key to refreshing,
food-enhancing wines. And, as the name "Chameleon" implies, the wines are
produced in a style that is designed to be a perfect match with almost any
food or occasion.
